On Thursday I went to my 30 week appointment with friends Jesse and Catie. They’d never been to any of my appointments before and it was fun to share the experience with them. They also had an opportunity to meet Dr. Bonatti, whom I really like and am glad he was referred to me by my Spanish teaching partner, Ariana.
After the ultrasound showed that I was 31 weeks and 3 days (DBP: 33 weeks, C. Abd: 30 weeks, LF: 30 weeks), my due date was yet again bumped up to August 5. It started out at Aug 13, changed to the 10th, then the 8th, and now the 5th. I’m thrilled that it keeps getting closer and closer!
Everything looked great on the ultrasound - Sienna seems to be growing perfectly and I can tell she’s very cute already ;) I asked Dr. Bonatti when I should have my parents arrive because they’ll be flying down and staying for 2 weeks, but would like to spend most of the time with the baby and not arrive too early. He said Sienna could arrive anytime after July 22 and if my parents arrive and things haven’t started happening yet, “I make it for you.”
He also said that they have “this thing in Guatemala” that they give mothers in the back, so they feel no pain. I laughed that he was describing an epidural as something special they have here in Guatemala. He obviously knows it’s available elsewhere, but with his limited English, things come out sounding funnier than when he sticks to Spanish. He also made it sound like it was good times in the delivery room with this pain reliever and said I may even be laughing. I’m not sure it’ll be quite that good!
I was really excited to get Sienna’s bedroom furniture today! I bought several things from a friend of mine at school who is returning to the US with his family in a couple of weeks. Sienna now has a crib, changing table, swing, bouncy chair and a few other odds and ends. I’ve received a ton of stuff from co-workers and my students’ moms at various showers. Her closet is fairly well stocked and I’m feeling more and more ready for her arrival!!
